Engineering Rocks Podcast with Steve Szabo

In January’s Engineering Rocks Podcast, Jones Edmunds Senior Vice President Ken Vogel spoke with Steve Szabo, the Director of Planning and Development for Space Florida. Steve is a Professional Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in planning, design, permitting, construction, and economic development in the aerospace industry. It was great to catch up with Steve who, prior to his career with Space Florida, worked for Jones Edmunds for 12 years.

Ken and Steve discussed Steve’s role at Space Florida, the agency’s work throughout Florida, public/private partnerships, and their relationships with FDOT, NASA, and the Space Force. Steve explained how the transition that Florida’s space industry has seen over the last 10 years has led to the space renaissance we are seeing today. He also shared insights on one of the recent Space Florida projects that has been years in the making – transforming the old Shuttle Landing Facility into a commercial spaceport. He said at Space Florida one of their roles is to have land ready for developments and expansions for an industry that is innovating so fast and that is it hard to predict for the future.
