Jones Edmunds & Associates, Inc. is proud to support Citrus County in expanding its solid waste infrastructure with the Phase 4 expansion of the County’s Class I landfill site. This important project increases disposal capacity and marks a significant milestone in the County’s long-term solid waste planning.

Our team provided planning, design, and permitting services for the expansion by developing a phased approach that maximizes the use of the limited remaining land while allowing time to relocate the existing Citizens Service Area. Because the new disposal cells are being constructed on the final portion of County-owned land at the landfill facility, careful planning and design were essential to the project’s success.

“This project is about more than just increasing capacity; it’s about supporting Citrus County’s ability to serve its residents well into the future,” said Tobin McKnight, Chief Engineer at Jones Edmunds. “Our team worked closely with the County to develop a solution that balances engineering, environmental stewardship, and operational needs.”

The Phase 4 expansion is a key part of Citrus County’s solid waste program, improving disposal capabilities and supporting the ongoing operation of this vital public service.

Jones Edmunds Senior Manager, Troy Hays has been working with the County’s solid waste division for about 20 years and on this project for more than five years. He said, “the County’s decision to expand the existing landfill gives the County control over its solid waste future, ensuring an environmentally responsible solution and stable costs for residents.”
