It is with great pride that we announce the selection of the Launch Complex 48 (LC-48) Construction Team for NASA’s Silver Group Achievement Award! The team included Jones Edmunds Senior Construction Administrator Jesse Salazar, CCEA and Civil Design Department Manager Walt Nickel, PE, along with 15 teammates from NASA and the Contractor, Advon.
This prestigious award is bestowed to teams for a stellar achievement that supports one or more of NASA’s Core Values. The team was recognized for their commitment to engineering excellence, teamwork, and mission success that ensured that LC-48 was built on time and within budget. The project enhances NASA’s multi-user spaceport by maximizing the future value of the site for future NASA missions while minimizing impacts to our protected environment.
For the construction phase, Jesse served as Project Manager and Walt as Engineer of Record to provide engineering services during construction of the new LC-48 for small class rockets. The project included clearing, filling, paving, grading, drainage, launch pad, propellant staging areas, sound suppression containment, and related infrastructure. Jesse said, “I think what made this a really successful project was there were no surprises. The design was great. The contractor, Advon, was committed to excellence from the beginning, and the NASA team, Jones Edmunds, and Advon communicated and worked together very well during all phases to make this project very successful.”
The award was presented July 1 at the virtual Kennedy Space Center Honor Awards Ceremony. Congratulations, Walt and Jesse and thank you for all your exceptional work!
