Sweetwater Branch/Paynes Prairie Sheetflow Restoration

City of Gainesville and Gainesville Regional Utilities

Coolness Factor:

Sweetwater Wetlands Park is a beautiful landmark destination in Gainesville with more than 70,000 visitors per year. Landscaped to form a gator’s head, it cost-effectively removes nitrogen and beneficially reuses reclaimed wastewater.

Description:

Jones Edmunds completed a preliminary engineering report, designed and permitted the project, provided construction support services to satisfy the nitrogen-load reductions and restore 1,300 acres of Paynes Prairie to its natural condition. Jones Edmunds helped GRU obtain nearly $5,000,000 in grant funding for constructing the project. The park provides additional wildlife habitat, wildlife viewing, and public recreation opportunities.
